The country's power facilities have come under escalating strikes in the past few days

Overnight, Russian aerial assaults have resulted in blackouts in extensive areas of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Moscow has escalated assaults on power infrastructure over the past few days, while Ukrainian leadership has called for "concrete actions" from allies to apply pressure on Russia.

"What's needed is not symbolic gestures but decisive action - from the US, European nations and the major economies - in providing protection systems and implementing restrictions," was stated in a social media post.

Officials stated that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and several dozen projectiles attacked the country's power systems, characterizing such assaults as "premeditated" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as temperatures become colder.

The energy minister said Moscow was "launching a major assault" and repair crews were working to restore power.

A series of attacks damaged power facilities and civilian homes in the capital.

Five out of the nine people hurt in the assaults on the capital have been hospitalized, according to city authorities.
