Separately, a flourishing trade exists on messaging services, where communities with thousands of participants share “before and after” images, injection guides and assertions of rapid UK delivery. Vendors market the substance there before redirecting buyers to other platforms for transactions.

Retatrutide is an investigational injectable developed by US drugmaker Eli Lilly. The treatment affects three intestinal hormones – GLP-1, GIP and pancreatic hormone. Early trials indicate it could help individuals lose up to 25% of their total weight. Referred to as the “triple G”, the substance is being promoted online as the successor to Ozempic.

Medical Professionals Voice Concerns

Within moments of joining one community, a vendor posted WhatsApp details, where the majority of purchases occur. The seller sent an instruction manual and guaranteed delivery within two days. When questioned whether the product was authentic, one seller responded: “You can’t be sure.” Another shared a photo of a supposed laboratory certificate. Not one inquired about weight, medical conditions or previous experience.

Within these communities, messages show black plastic packages with Royal Mail stickers, stating to include fresh supplies. One communication stated: “It took eight of us to load them this morning.”

Buyers can choose between powder vials, prepared at home with sterile water, or pre-filled pens typically sold at 160 pounds for 20mg. When asked how much time a pen should last, vendors give conflicting responses varying between a few weeks to “depends on your body”.

A representative for Telegram said it actively moderated harmful material on its platform including material that encouraged the “misuse of controlled medications”. The company noted that it removed “millions of pieces of harmful content each day”.

“People are injecting materials they cannot confirm. Although the science behind retatrutide is sound, these online versions may not include what they claim,” stated a pharmacy expert, the director of pharmaceutical services at Chemist4U.

A medical professional of an online medical service connected the surge in interest to current price rises for authorized slimming drugs such as Mounjaro. “With prices rising, individuals are using online platforms. But fake injections are highly dangerous. You can’t be certain what’s inside or whether the environment they were made in was sterile,” she explained.
