The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team is likely designing a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities only possible with a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
